Bank of Commerce Shows Team Spirit

Keys Bank of Commerce recently demonstrated their desire to support the community by donating a display sign to the Keys School District. "Jerry Hood, Keys School Superintendent, approached me shortly after we opened in Keys with the idea," J. C. Ballew explained. J. C. is the President of the local Bank of Commerce branch. He presented the idea to the Carson family of Stilwell, owners of the bank, and they donated $25,000 to the school for the project. Of course, the bank allowed the sign to be constructed on their corner lot near both the grade and high schools.

"The high visibility of the sign allows both the bank and the school to display information to the public," J. C. said. "We are happy to be a part of the Keys community and lend support

Lower Illinois River Visitors to the lower Illinois River can always find cool running water and fast fishing action. Both rainbow and brown trout can be caught at the lower Illinois, which is one of only two year-round trout areas within the state. Water, drawn from the depths of Lake Tenkiller, flows into the lower Illinois River, keeping it at a fairly constant temperature range in the 50s and 60s. This cool, oxygen rich water serves two purposes, it keeps trout comfortable year-round and the cooler water attracts stripers, white bass, walleye and other fish when the nearby Arkansas River becomes too warm for their liking. This makes the river one of the state's top fisheries

Additional Fishing report by Terry McDonald Lake Tenkiller is calming down after a wonderful summer season and now is the time to take advantage of the calm waters and great fishing. Night fishing is very productive for white bass and crappie under floating lights, fishing deep for black bass on structure and cat fishing on mid lake flats. Cool Temps and quiet waters make night fishing an excellent choice for this time of year. Evening trips are producing big catches of white bass. Locating feeding birds or surfacing fish are key; expect plenty of bent poles and smiles. Below the dam stripers and walleye are good in the evening. Trout fishing in the morning is a great way to catch dinner before the heat picks up. We now offer trout tours from the comfort of our bay boat. Wade trips are still available! Come join the adventure! We also offer a wide variety of whitetail deer and waterfowl hunts.

to the local school," he continued. He further explained that the school has full access to the equipment in the bank to display their messages.

With school starting soon, be sure to watch the sign for important messages. What a way to show your TEAM SPIRIT, Bank of Commerce. Thanks for sharing our pride! For more information about the sign or banking questions, give J. C. a call at 458-1500.

Fri, Sat, Sun, Sept 28-30 Fall is coming and so is the Fin's Festival. Although every season has it own charm and beauty, autumn is the traditional time for fairs. So once again, we have chosen the last full weekend in September for our Annual Fall Festival Arts and Crafts Show.

More than 200 exhibitors will be selling their handiwork on Friday and Saturday from 9am to 6pm and on Sunday from 9am to 5pm. We are especially pleased that so many exhibitors from our previous shows have already reserved booth space. The show has grown in size and attendance each year, and this year's show looks to be no exception. Click here for the Fin's website

Water Watchers Report

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As of August 29, the water level was 633.72 feet, compared to normal pool at 632 feet. It has dropped a couple of feet over the last 10 days through generation of electricity. With most of the rain over the weekend falling west of the watershed, the level will likely continue to drop slowly unless there is more rain. Water clarity is good in the lower two-thirds of the lake, which is normal. Surface water temperature is running between
86 and 88 degrees. The thermocline is set up at around 25- 30 feet, also normal for this time of year.
Fishing is very slow right now because of the water temperature and the summer traffic. Crappie and spotted bass, as well as an occasional sandy, can be caught trolling small crankbaits along the shore in the early mornings and evenings. Look for fishing to improve later in September after the crowds thin out and the water temperature drops toward 80.
