|
Tenkiller Multi-Use Trail - This spectacular 1-1/2 mile long trail is paved and easily accessible for all ages and special needs hikers. The entrance is at the visitors center and loops completely back around. As you travel along this trail you will learn about some of the vast history of this area, including the Bean Salt Works that operated just below the present day dam in the early 1800's. You will learn about the many native birds and mammals that frequent our park and the view from Crappie point showcases the bluffs, the dam and the spillway. You really don't want to come to the park and not get a look at this view. The Gum Springs Trail was built by the Gum Springs school children in the spring of 1997. This trail is more of a wilderness experience than the Whispering Leaves Trail. It is about ½ mile in length and the entrance is at the Gooseneck Bend North campgrounds. It wanders through the woods at the end of Pine Cove and then goes up on the ridge for a distance. Click here to see lots of pictures and read more about the Tenkiller State Park Trails

to come out and enjoy the Trail, but if not, our intent is that we have given you the next best thing. Walking the trail, there are dozens of signs identifying the many trees and shrubs of the area. Also, benches abound around the park, with all placed in perfect spots for viewing the different wildlife, and overlooking the clear Vian Lake. There are basically 3 ways to walk, the main loop around the lake is .9 mile, If you walk around 3/4 of the lake then take the left loop around the mountain, that is approx 1 1/2 miles back to the start, If you walk around 3/4 of the lake, then take the left loop, then take the softball loop, that is approx 2 miles back to the start. See you there! Click here to see lots of pictures and read more about the Armstrong Park Trails

Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge is home to wildlife as unique as the bald eagle and as elusive as the bobcat. Fertile bottomlands at the confluence of the Arkansas and Canadian Rivers make this east-central Oklahoma refuge a terrific wildlife viewing destination just a few miles south of Vian. Stroll along the paved, 1-mile Horton Slough Nature Trail which begins near the information kiosk at the refuge headquarters. The trail commonly features wood ducks and their broods, migrating and resident warblers, herons, and egrets. You'll follow the north shore of Horton Slough to a boardwalk and observation pier overlooking Sally Jones Lake, and return along the south side of the slough. the park. Here's a brief description of each trail. Family Fun Trail - formerly part of Gobbler Ridge trail. The trail begins at the park office. There are also several other locations to access the trail including two areas within the Gobbler Ridge campground and at the kids fishing pond. The length is approximately one and one half miles. The paved hiking trail offers the hiker a view of areas formerly unseen by our park visitors and guests. Enjoy the trail on bicycle, skates, walking or pushing a stroller. The trail has an entrance just outside the cabin office and takes in historical areas from the CCC days. Another way to access the trail is from the kids pond. This area takes in some of the former Gobbler Ridge Trail and also travels through a wooded area of the park. An observation deck with benches allows for a beautiful view of the Arkansas River. This trail has informative signage and benches along its route, which is about 1-1/2 miles of paved surface. This handicapped accessible trail can be navigated easily by wheelchairs, bicycles, skates, walking or pushing a stroller. by George Harris For most homeowners, the passing of Labor Day weekend also marks the passing of their vacation season. They'll be waiting many months before they can visit their favorite lake destination again. But for Lake Tenkiller second homeowners, fall's beginning merely marks a new getaway season. They anticipate cooler temperatures at their vacation homes, and are already planning for holiday gatherings at those homes in coming months. |

Investors are snagging bargains at a particularly advantageous time for borrowers. Record-low interest rates, even on second properties, are combining with low prices to make buyers take a second look. It's a good investment; we have had people buy here from all over. Those anticipating retirement make up a large portion of the market. We have had buyers come from California, Florida, all over the U.S., in addition to local purchasers. Many eventually make their second home their permanent home. Out-of-state buyers learn about Lake Tenkiller from researching the Internet. They are drawn to the idea of creating a family gathering place that can be used to accommodate all generations. The average Tenkiller property is kept 10 years or more, as memories are made and treasured as children and grandchildren grow. Those considering a lake home purchase should consider low-maintenance properties, and not to overbuy on square footage. Yards that require a lot of work, or empty bedrooms that need to be dusted, quickly lose their charm when the fish are biting, and the leaves are falling. |
