Dear George,

Lots of things are happening in the Lake Tenkiller area, and we would like to share a little of it with you. Thanks so much for being one of the 1800+ subscribers! We Love Lake Tenkiller! Celebrating 16 years of Service to the area.

Had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Bill & Cindy Downes doing a story on Tenkiller Lake voted favorite lake in Oklahoma by Oklahoma Living readers. Story to appear in January issue mailed to members of Oklahoma electric cooperatives. Thanks to all who voted. WE LOVE LAKE TENKILLER

Tenkiller Golf Course Purchased!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joining Patty and Larry at the golf course will be their sons and families. William "Chuck" Fulbright is a golf course superintendent that has worked at high-end golf facilities such as La Cantera in San Antonio, which hosted the PGA Tour's Texas Open for many years. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge about turfgrass maintenance and irrigation. Kyle Fulbright is a PGA Golf Professional that will oversee the golf shop and driving range. Kyle has taught for several years to golfers of all abilities and he will maintain an active junior golf program. A third son, Larry 'Chip" Fulbright jr., will be joining the family upon completion of his Navy career.
The Wolf plans on opening the driving range, food and beverage operation and the bowling lanes this fall with the golf course coming online in the summer of 2012. After the greens have grown in, the next phase of the project will involve making the golf course handicap accessible so that anyone can enjoy the great game of golf. This is a project vital to Larry as he spent 28 years in the Army and is wanting to dedicate programs at The Wolf to wounded and disabled veterans. Larry and Patty invite anyone in the area to stop by and say hello as they work hard to make The Wolf ready to howl!
The Wolf at Tenkiller, formerly Lake Tenkiller Golf Course, is scheduled for a full re-opening in 2012! The facility was recently purchased by Larry and Patty Fulbright of Muldrow and will be a true family run business. In addition to golf, the facility will offer food and beverage and a four-lane duck pin bowling alley. The facility also will be the only golf course in the country that is 100% handicap accessible and is open to everyone!
Each day brings about more yellows and oranges in contrast to the green pine trees that are so prevalent in this area. Sumac gleams bright red and the yellow sassafras and orange poison ivy leaves make for an enjoyable sight. A drive through Greenleaf State Park or Tenkiller State Park will give guests a real treat to the trees that have begun to turn.
Trees reflect a quilt of fall colors as they embrace the hills around the lakes. The yellow leaves of the hickory trees and persimmon trees are easy to spot. The orange and red colors of the maple trees are just beginning. The winding leaves of the Virginia Creeper are adding vibrant red touches to the trees that are still holding on to their leaves. There is so much color right now and we expect the peak to be possibly this weekend.
You can go to www.travelok.com and get the latest foliage reports. It's a good link to Foliage for lots of routes throughout the state. The site is updated as often as reports come in to them.
Meeting Held for Lower Illinois River
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

State Rep. John Bennett and state Sen. Mark Allen will hold a town hall meeting on Oct. 27 to allow citizens to discuss issues with Oklahoma Game and Wildlife officials.

In particular, the meeting will focus on concerns about fish dying below the Tenkiller Dam on the Illinois River Trout Stream, and the growing number of black and brown bear in the area.

"This meeting will be very informative and I encourage all interested constituents to attend and talk to the decision-makers who affect these issues," said Bennett, R-Sallisaw.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Oct. 27 in Sallisaw, OK at the Indian Capitol Technology Center in the Building E Seminar room. Because the event will take place around supper time, finger food and drinks will be provided.

The town hall format will include the following:

*quick overview;
*introductions of speakers;
*a short history of the fish problems in Gore at the dam;
*discussion of current problems causing fish to die;
*discussion of possible solutions (short-term, mid-term and long-term);
*history of the bears issue in the local area;
*discussion of current bear populations and associated issues;
*discussion of the possibility of a bear season in Sequoyah County or issuance of nuisance tags;
*discussion of other possible solutions;
*what citizens can do to help fix these issues; and *question-and-answer session

"I believe this meeting could be very productive and begin the process of addressing these significant issues," Bennett said. "This is a chance for local citizens to impact government policy, and I hope they take advantage of this opportunity.
