TenkillerProperty.com LLC, a leading real estate brokerage firm on Lake Tenkiller, located in Eastern Oklahoma, was recognized number 91 in Entrepreneur magazine's annual "HOT 100" listing of America's top fast-growth businesses and the entrepreneurs who built them. In its May 2008 issue, Entrepreneur compiled this list with the help of research provider CentrisPoint and its database of 21 million U.S. businesses. Of the nearly 21 million companies on the preliminary list, only 0.3% made the first cut, and just a fraction of those made it to the Hot 100, including TenkillerProperty.com

Cherokee Nation officials, led by Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation Chad Smith, along with Oklahoma Department of Transportation and local officials dedicated the recently opened Cherokee Hills Byway during the Red Fern Festival on Capitol Square April 25.

The Cherokee Nation Commerce Department drove the Byway submission process with the purpose of raising Cherokee Nation cultural awareness and creating economic development in the communities along the 88-mile stretch of highway that runs through Sequoyah, Cherokee, Adair and Delaware counties.

To support the scenic byway economic thesis, analysis sponsored by The National Scenic Byway Resource Center of the Quantifying the Economic Impacts of Scenic Byway Designation research report, which included 21 byway impact studies on the economic impact of scenic byways, found that based on one study for three byways, an increase in annual traffic of 3.4 percent to 20 percent due to byway designation was experienced; in six of the 21 byway studies, 19 to 33 jobs were created per $1 million of visitor spending; and one study found that visitor group spending per trip to be valued at $104.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation and University of Oklahoma Outreach will officially oversee the Cherokee Hills Byway program including support for the selected roads, promoting the communities and preserving irreplaceable resources.

As official sponsors the Cherokee Nation will continue to develop the Cherokee Hills Byway with master planning and community development, which will benefit cities lining the byway including Oaks, Marble City, Gore, Cookson, Keys, Kansas, West Siloam Springs and Tahlequah, capital city of the Cherokee Nation.

"This historical thoroughfare runs across some of the most important land in the history of the Cherokee Nation," said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. "The partnership between the Cherokee Nation, the state, and the university creates the opportunity to share with visitors and Oklahomans alike the unique communities that make up the Cherokee experience." Cherokee Hills Byway is the eighth byway in the Oklahoma Byways Program, which proudly promotes its official tagline: "community driven, community led."

Fabric Patch Quilt Shop Opens in Gore

Story & Photo by Pam Wemhaner

With patrons travelling from as far away as Tahlequah and Tulsa, Roberta Thomason has taken a leap of faith by opening a new business in the heart of Gore. The Fabric Patch Quilt Shop is located at 309 N. Main Gore, Ok 74435 in the same building as the pharmacy. Stop by to visit and browse through the hundreds of bolts of fabric she offers for sale in this charming setting. Roberta is focused on the needs of quilters with nearly all of her fabric being 100% cotton. Plenty of notions, thread and other sewing supplies are available. If she does not have what you need, she probably knows where to get it.

Since Walmart in Sallisaw closed

down their fabric department, the Fabric Patch Quilt Shop is the only fabric store in Sequoyah County. Roberta offers classes in quilting on an as needed basis for a nominal fee. An experienced quilter, she has hosted quilting events for ladies groups and other community events, she works trade and quilting shows and just loves what she does. Roberta has a nice little sitting area where patrons may thumb through the dozens of quilting books. The next time you are in Gore, stop in and say hello between the hours of 10am-5pm Wednesdays thru Saturdays.

Trouble in Paradise? Start That Watch!

Even though Real Estate sales are up in the area, I guess due to the troubled economic times, home theft sure seems to be on the increase in the area, For those of you that don't know, the latest was several dozen large boats were hit by theives at Pine Cove Marina. See the article here Also, I have had several people comment to us about neighborhoods recently being burglarized, and to spread the word to neighbors.

The best thing any of us can do, is become the eyes and ears for our local law enforcement. The reality of it all is, that in rural areas, especailly with all of the new found growth around our lake, our law enforcement folks need our help. Participation ranges from individuals just being good neighbors to formally organized Neighborhood Watch Programs that work with the local law enforcement agency to systematically patrol an area.

Here are some links that may help getting that local watch organized.
