4th Annual Diamond Daze June 5th & 6th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As many festivals in this region are having to call it "quits" with the economy such as it is, Sallisaw is very grateful to the many Chamber of Commerce members who have made it possible for the Diamond Daze Festival to remain intact for 2009! So mark your calendar and plan to attend both Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th at the Sallisaw High School Grounds area.
In many ways this festival may prove to be the best, yet! Great Plains Amusement Company has already signed on the dotted line and will bring a high quality, safety assured carnival to the event this year. We also have Ricochet as our entertainment on Friday night and Shenandoah comes to town for the first time, ever, on Saturday night.
Once again, there will be wonderful BBQ for the tasting on Saturday along with plenty of arts, crafts
and food vendors to enjoy while the kids take advantage of the many rides of the carnival. As an added treat this year we are very excited to have Chad Jasna put together lots of great entertainment all day Saturday. Chad is well known for his Green Country Opry Show each year in December. Many of those same entertainers will be sharing their talent at the Festival along with some new ones to the stage. All of these folks will be doing this in honor of Tori Mills as we bring to you the "Tori Mills Talent Showcase".
With respect to the economy, the cost of parking has been reduced to $5 each day. As always, there is no admission fee. But, all carnival rides, food and vendor items must be purchased.
Water Watchers Report
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Memorial Day has come and gone and it is still cool and wet. The lake was up to 643.5 (11.5 feet above normal), but has now dropped to about 636 (4 feet above normal). The cool spring has slowed the warm-up of the water and the fishing has been spotty. Sand bass spawning has been delayed, however I think from the number of dead small males I see floating around, it is in full swing now (spawning stress kills a lot of the males each year).

The surface temperature was almost 80 degrees yesterday afternoon near the dam, however it cooled quickly to about 77 degrees when the sun went down. If the weather pattern continues, it will be late June before it hits 85.

Water clarity is pretty good, though there is quite a lot of algae growing on the rocks and docks, which indicates that the nutrients levels remain elevated. Other parameters are near normal.

Water Watchers needs some new recruits. If you are interested, call John Ellis at 918-776-5394.
