My friends, Jim & Shannon Smith have opened a new venture called Tenkiller Trading Co. The store / gift shop located on North Main in Gore is full of Lake Tenkiller personalized goods and very unusual lake motif. If you are a resident or just visiting in the area, you will find SOMETHING you just gotta have. There are Lake Tenkiller t-shirts, hats, bags, swimsuits, sandals, towels, jewerly, candles, books, cabin décor, novelties, bath and body products, souvenirs, party supplies, OU and OSU stuff, and even ice, soda and beer. I am sure that I have left something out, so you just need to go by and check it out! I stopped by to take a picture or two, and just had to do a " virtual tour" of the shop and still do not feel like it even gives a hint of what all is available. Click here to check it out, or better yet stop by and say Hi and thank Shannon for the upcoming fire works display on the 4th at Tenkiller dam. For the past few years, she has given numerous hours of her time to make sure it happens. Store hours are 10:00 am until 7:00 pm, Monday and Thursday thru Saturday. Store hours on Sunday are 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays |

TULSA, Okla. -- Oklahoma just set a record -- one that no one wanted to set. This past weekend, the holiday death toll on state lakes was the highest that safety officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers can recall. Four of the five deaths occurred on Corps lakes, and each of them could have been prevented, according to Col. Miroslav Kurka, Tulsa District commander. "None of the victims wore a life vest." He stressed, "People who want to enjoy the lakes need to pay attention to basic water safety practices." This part of the country always leads the nation in the number of drownings at Corps lakes. It's a tradition that Corps of Engineers officials would like to change. They say it will take a culture change. Billy Banks, chief of Operations Division, said that in addition to the five drownings on state lakes, there were a number of near drowning misses. "Even in those near misses, none were wearing life vests. As we stress over and over - It won't work if you don't wear it!" |
