July 2011 In This Issue -- Area Fireworks Sunday & Monday! -- 36th Annual Cookson Jubilee July 15-16 -- NSU Stars in the Summer Series -- Life Jacket or Toe Tag -- Area Events -- Fishing Report -- Team Tenkiller -- Tenkiller New Homes Greetings from Lake Tenkiller , Lots of things are happening in the Lake Tenkiller area, and we would like to share a little of it with you. Thanks so much for being one of the 1800+ subscribers to our award winning newsletter! We Love Lake Tenkiller! Celebrating 11 years of Service to the area. This year is certainly becoming the year of "weather extremes". What a difference a month makes. Currently the lake has been hovering at ½ ft above normal for several days/weeks. Water clarity is improving quickly, and surprisingly, the shoreline vegetation shows no tale/tell signs of 30+ ft above normal water levels. Water temps are in the mid 80's with air temps forecasted into the 100's. Sadly, this year has also been a year of "drowning extremes". Please be careful this holiday, we would like to celebrate the 4th with you next year. Enjoy!

Viewers of the annual Tenkiller Fireworks Extravaganza should expect a spectacular display this Fourth of July. The show will begin around dusk. The Greater Tenkiller Area Association sponsors the event. The fireworks will be shot off from the Tenkiller State Park Sanitary Lagoon Area, just north of the main entrance. The site used in previous years is under construction and concerns have risen in regards to the proximity of Highway 100. The current site is higher in elevation than the site used in the past and should provide excellent viewing from the central part of the lake. Land lubbers will also be treated to an exceptional view from a variety of location. The show is entirely funded by donations from businesses and individuals who would like to see the tradition continued. If you would like to contribute to this years display you can make checks payable to GTAA Fireworks, P.O. Box 916, Gore, Oklahoma, 74435. All the sponsors will be listed in the 2012 Greater Tenkiller Lake Visitors Guide. |

This summer, audiences can join the Downtown Country cast and honor a great tradition in country music - the Grand Ole Opry. A Grand Ole Celebration retraces the Opry's beginnings as the WSM Barn Dance, relives days spent at the historic Ryman Auditorium, rejoices in its renovation after the recent Nashville flood and revels in its continued success as the world's longest running live radio program. River City Players will take music fans on a trip down a doo-wop memory land with their production of River City Classic: Hits of the '50s and '60s. The cast will revisit favorites from the golden age of rock 'n' roll. From the Platters to the Beatles, this journey will have guests be-bopping in their seats. |
|
The Stars in the Summer began in 1983 when the River City Players hosted their first season. In 1995 the cast of Downtown Country was added to the bill. Around the year 2000, the two casts joined marketing and box office efforts to combine as one series. For over a quarter of a century, audiences have enjoyed the rockin' rhythms of old time rock-n-roll and pop with the River City Players and the boot scootin' sounds of country music of Downtown Country. The 2011 Stars in the Summer Series runs June 16 through August 6. DOWNTOWN COUNTRY: A Grand Ole Celebration (Friday at 7:30 p.m. & Saturday at 2 p.m.) This is Country Music! (Thursday at 7:30 p.m. & Saturday at 7:30 p.m.) RIVER CITY PLAYERS: River City Classic: Hits of the 50's and 60's (Friday at 7:30 p.m. & Saturday at 2 p.m.) River City Retro: Hits of the 70's and 80's (Thursday at 7:30 p.m. & Saturday at 7:30 p.m.) Click here for Ticket information

If you are planning to visit Tenkiller Lake during the upcoming Independence Day weekend, you must ask yourself, "Do I want to wear a life jacket or a toe tag?" Ultimately, only you can decide. Last year 15 people drowned in Tulsa District lakes. This year, only halfway through the recreation season, that number has been exceeded and all but one of them could have been prevented with the use of a life jacket 2011 is on track to have the highest number of drowning |

fatalities within the last ten years at Corps' lakes in Oklahoma, southern Kansas, and northern Texas. This is a record that we do not want to see broken. Don't become a statistic. Which will you wear, a toe tag or a life jacket? It's your choice. Click here to watch the video
