Fireworks Display Slotted To Be Largest Ever

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By JOHN KYLE TRUITT
Viewers of the annual Tenkiller Fireworks Extravaganza should expect a spectacular display this Fourth of July. The show will begin around dusk and will be ran by Hance Pyrotechnics of Tahlequah. The Greater Tenkiller Area Association sponsors the event.
The fireworks will be shot off from the Tenkiller State Park Sanitary Lagoon Area, just north of the main entrance. The site used in previous years is under construction and concerns have risen in regards to the proximity of Highway 100. The current site is higher in elevation than the site used in the past and should provide excellent viewing from the central part of the lake. Land lubbers will also be treated to an exceptional view from a variety of location.
The previous yearıs show was rained out and held on the 5th of July. Approximately half the previous yearıs fireworks were damaged due to rain. Due to the circumstances the fireworks company agreed to a 47 percent discount. The unspent amount
from the 2009 show will be added to the donations received for the 2010 show. The added funding should make the 2010 Lake Tenkiller Fireworks Extravaganza the best fireworks display in the history of the Lake Tenkiller area.
The show is entirely funded by donations from businesses and individuals who would like to see the tradition continued. If you would like to contribute to this years display you can make checks payable to GTAA Fireworks, P.O. Box 916, Gore, Oklahoma, 74435. All the sponsors will be listed in the 2011 Greater Tenkiller Lake Visitors Guide.
The Greater Tenkiller Area Association will be hosting the 2010 Lake Tenkiller Boat Parade on the evening of July 4th. On-lake registration will be be available through the Parade Director Boat between 5:00 and 5:30 pm between the two large islands near the dam. You can preregister your boat online at jellis@crosstel.net or by mail to GTAA Boat Parade, John
Ellis, P.O. Box 916, Gore, OK, 74435.
The entrants will then line up behind the Parade directors boat and will pass in front of the judging area at least three times. Then the parade will precede to the entrance of Pine Cove, circle the outer part of the cove, then proceed around the corner to the dam, past the South Overlook area and then back to the point of starting. At that point the Parade Director will retrieve the results of the judging, the winners will be announced, and the prizes awarded. The parade will end at that time so that the entrants can get anchored up to enjoy the fireworks show.
Cash prizes of $250 will be given to the winners of each division with an additional $250 being given to Best of Show. The divisions will be small boat, less than 26 ft., large boat, over 26 ft., and pontoon/deck boats. This years theme is "Almost Anything Goes on Lake Tenkiller." Use your imagination for a show stopping idea.
The project is about building a unique piece of history that brings together people with a variety of skills and interests. Backyard engineers, teachers, artists, CAD designers, historians, modelers, builders, submariners, adventures, and students of all ages are welcomed. When the Argonaut Jr. is pulled from the water, the submarine will be available for school visits for FREE!
So if Simon Lake were alive today, how would he build Argonaut Jr.? He would have spent long days and nights researching what others had done before him online and an in discussion forums. I his own time he may have talked to people who knew about the "Alligator", a top secret submarine built by the North during the Civil War. No doubt he would use Computer Aided Design (CAD) to draw up plans, and add some electronics, video cameras, and an underwater remotely controlled and put up a web site so potential investors could see his work. And that is what the Argonaut Jr. 2010 project is all about. Doing it in the way Simon would do it today. But our goal is to educated and inspire so we're keeping no secrets.
Remember, Argonaut Jr. 2010 is not a replica of Simon's Argonaut Jr. but the answer to a hypothetical question. Building a working replica would require much more time, money, and skill. However, Argonaut Jr. 2010 will lay the ground work for building a working replica using modern materials.
Tell your educator friends about this opportunity. Everyone is welcome to come watch. We especially encourage teachers to join us as you will be able to use the Argonaut Jr. at your school. If you are a teacher you'll get preferential treatment. Email us and let us know you want to go for a dive and we'll do our best to accommodate you. See the Teacher Stuff page for more details.
