-- Burn Ban, Low Water Level Continues at Tenkiller

Greetings from Lake Tenkiller,

Lots of things are happening in the Lake Tenkiller area, and we would like to share a little of it with you. Thanks so much for being one of the 800+ subscribers! We Love Lake Tenkiller!

Our long distance telephone service has been interrupted twice in the last month. December 29th and just before Christmas our service was interrupted for about 4 hours each time due to a break in the fiber optic cables. We apologize if we missed anyone's calls.

Staying on the "Cutting Edge"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's that very special time of year again where we all step back for a moment and look at what our business has accomplished, and where we want to go in the future. The power and reach of the Internet continues to increase and impact how we live, work and play. Because of the interactivity it offers, it has the potential to become more significant than the telephone, radio and even television. In fact, the Internet is capable of delivering all of the functions those earlier technologies offered.
As we talk about the Internet and its great promise, we should not only think about how it will improve our business but also how it can make the world a better place. It has already had great
impact on improving communications around the world, in essence bringing us all together. The medical field, education and religion are a few other areas besides real estate that will see great improvements as use of the Internet grows and new technologies emerge.
George Harris, Broker and Owner, states that the Tenkiller Property.com office is currently accommodating five associates and is able to assit up to eight serving our clients. The state-of-the-art facility has a computer station and hi speed Internet access to each desk. Our conference room has been turned into a "Media Center" with a plasma TV/monitor hooked to a powerful computer with hi speed internet access, and windows media platform opening up tremendous opportunties in the presentation of real estate. Harris states the media center also has satellite television, keeping the company in touch with the outside world that sometimes we all try to escape. "We are thrilled to be increasing our presence at the southern gateway to Tenkiller with the growth taking place in the area." Harris said, "We really wanted to do business right here and are proud to be part of the community celebrating our sixth year."
The real estate industry has quickly become one of the most dominant fields on the Internet, with approximately 90% of homebuyers using it to aid them in their property search. With our cutting edge, award-winning website marketing Lake Tenkiller area property, we are presenting the company and property in an e-commerce fashion. The company also sends out a monthly e-newsletter via the internet describing local market trends and current events, with a subscription base of over 800 subscribers and have received inquiries from all over the World. "We really have been quite surprised at the reaction from the public and the industry as to how we are going to market, and are thrilled with the results." Said Harris.
Big Daddy's, Right On the Dam Highway
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

By Betty Curtis

Big Daddys was purchased in 1982 by Joe and April Hill. It started as a part time business open from April to October. It has become a Lake Tenkiller tradition and most people that visit the lake know and have been to Big Daddy's. There have been many improvements to the restaurant over the years. April has used her artistic talent to create some exceptional murals. Joe provides the muscle to make Aprils' visions a reality and the restaurant what it is today. The restaurant has been the first job opportunity for

many young people from Gore and Vian. The newest addition to the restaurant is the " Crows Nest" upstairs that will be a Sports Bar with big screen TV for all the big games and of course the good eats. The new deck out front will be dining by reservation this summer. Of course, Big Daddy's still has steaks on Saturday nights and catfish on Fridays. They will also be offering their great buffet again this summer. The winter hours are Thursday and Sundays from 8-2 and Friday and Saturday from 8-8.. We all look forward to the return of Summer Hours from 8am to 9 pm 7 days a week. Stop by and visit with the friendly folks at Big Daddy's and have a Big Daddy burger. See why it has become a true Tenkiller Tradition

Birding in the Tenkiller Area

This press release was written by my friend Ron Stahl with Discover Oklahoma and TravelOK.com. He is the guy that I am truly jealous of. What a great job, traveling the State, and sharing it's wonders with you. He always seems to land those great restaurant stories, but here is an excellent article on Birding. When the winter wind comes whistling from the north, it brings millions of visitors to Oklahoma. They aren't driving shiny

recreational vehicles and they aren't looking for the beach, although they are looking for a warmer climate than the one they have left. They come in all sizes and they all come by air. When they start arriving in Oklahoma, they bring with them a new season-the birding season. Because of our mild winter temperatures, open water, and abundant food sources, Oklahoma in the fall and winter becomes one of the top states for bird watchers in America. Our position in the Central Flyway Migration Route makes us a primary stopping point for these weary travelers. Some will stay long enough to rest and refresh, then head for even warmer climes. Some, like eagles and other raptors, have found their winter home.

For those who do not want to abandon the outdoors just because summer is gone, bird watching offers an opportunity to be outside and see sights that the cabin-bound will not experience. Magnificent areas for this growing outdoor pastime are scattered around every area of Oklahoma. Some are well known while others are not so obvious.

For those who really want a different kind of birding experience, Tenkiller State Park, Vian, offers Loon Watch trips January through March on Lake Tenkiller. Trips are scheduled two times a month and reservations are recommended. Tenkiller State Park Naturalist Leann Bunn can be reached at the park office at (918) 489-5643. Four different loon species winter on the lake. The stars of winter birding in Oklahoma are American bald eagles. As many as 1,500 bald eagles winter in Oklahoma annually. Prime eagle viewing months are January and February but many linger into March. For adventurous souls, a winter canoe trip down the Illinois River at Tahlequah can produce some incredible eagle watching. The eagle's primary diet is fish and the trees along the river can hold scores of the magnificent birds. Birding has become an enormously popular pastime for millions of Americans for good reason. It fills a void when summer activities are long gone and the spring thaw is still months away. It requires no special training and no special gear, other than good binoculars, comfortable hiking shoes and warm clothing. Once you catch birding fever, you may never lock yourself away in winter again. See more great articles at the official Oklahoma Tourism website!

Waterfowl censuses at Sequoyah NWR are conducted weekly from October to March. Click here to see how many of our feathered friends are in the area!

Burn Ban, Low Water Level Continues at Tenkiller

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Extended dry conditions and high winds have increased the fire danger in all Oklahoma counties. Dry vegetation will ignite easily and burn with surprising intensity. Oklahoma is again facing low rainfall, high temperatures, drying winds and increasing fire activity. It is unreasonable to presume that those affected by a ban on outdoor burning can proceed without extraordinary fire prevention measures in place. If the activity cannot be safely conducted in such a way as to eliminate the risk of accidental wildfire or to
provide for immediate suppression of any accidental fire, the activity should be delayed until more favorable conditions exist.
Outdoor grilling or charcoaling is not prohibited under this proclamation, however, caution should be used and glowing embers should not be dumped onto grassy areas. Campfires are not prohibited under this proclamation as long as attended and a noncombustible ring with a five-foot clearance to wildland fuels is present. However, any fire resulting from the use of a campfire, grilling, or smoking is still an illegal fire.
The current level of Lake Tenkiller is 619.80. This is about 12 feet below the normal pool level of 632.00. The dropping pool level continues to cause problems with boat ramps. More of them are becoming unusable as the lake drops. Safety should be used when launching and boating on the lake due to the many safety hazards that now exist due to the low lake level. The other side to this is that we have been able to take advantage of the low lake levels and make some much needed repairs to many of the boat ramps around the lake. Additionally our Construction Division has a contract ready to award for boat ramp rehabilitation work and road improvements at Chicken Creek South. As soon as the budget appropriation for FY 06 is received, they plan to award this contract.
