-- Burn Ban, Low Water Level Continues at Tenkiller

Lots of things are happening in the Lake Tenkiller area, and we would like to share a little of it with you. Thanks so much for being one of the 900+ subscribers! We Love Lake Tenkiller!

What can be said about our weather? Incredible, record breaking warmest January! BUT, I only use these adjectives when I know there isn't a grass or timber fire burning somewhere. I can't remember a January when I was killing flies :-)

Happy Valentines Day!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
February is the traditional month of love, valentines, cupid, and all of those things. Obviously, we love the lake, and hope you do too. So, last year we went and resurrected the "I Love Lake Tenkiller" sticker. (pictured above) Back about 15 years ago there was a sticker out that was a basic blue print on white sticker that seemed to be everywhere, and according to Kim Hutson, as
as they began to run out, the demand seemed to increase. So we continue to take it a step further, and with technology of today, we were able to put the graphic of Tenkiller lake water in the background. We think it wound up beautiful, just like the lake. We are glad to order a reprint and thrilled at the demand. If you would like a sticker, stop by the office, and pick up a few, and help us spread that love around. Or for those of you that do not live here and would like some mailed, let us know how many and send us a self addressed stamped envelope to the office and we will get them out. Pedro's Mexican Restaurant in Cookson
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The owners, David and Robin Beard, have lived in Terrapin Creek for several years and decided not to travel to Muskogee each day. They bring their many years of restaurant experience to the neighborhood. David and Robin chose to feature Mexican food so that the community has a new choice in neighborhood dining. David's brother Dwight owns the Stampede Buffet in Cookson and David wanted something new for the area. The Beard brothers have grown up in the restaurant business in Oklahoma City.

Pedro's is located at 32002 Hwy. 82 in Cookson. They are open from 11-9 pm Tuesday through Saturday and from 11-3 pm on Sunday. A child's plate is always offered and lunch specials until 3 pm. The evening meals has 17 traditional combo dinners for $7.95

Want to try a good meal in a quaint, cozy, close to home restaurant? Sample the fare at Pedro's Mexican Restaurant. You will be glad you did.

MarVal Family Fishing & Camping Resort

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By Roger Wenman
If you have not been to MarVal Family Fishing & Camping Resort lately you may be in for a big surprise. In 2003, Legacy Resorts, Inc. purchased the resort, and extensive improvements were begun in 2004. The work was completed by 2005, and the new management has added even more activities for their visitors.
Folks that have enjoyed the resort in the past know that it has one-half mile of riverfront on the Lower Illinois River. The river is full of both Brown and Rainbow Trout. So, it's a favorite of fly fisherman and rivals the great trout streams in
Arkansas and Missouri. Located only a mile north of Gore on Hwy 100, the resort is easy to reach from both I-40 and the Muskogee Turnpike.
MarVal allows folks free day use privileges to fish along the riverbank. They're happy to have you and are returning a favor from the Division of Wildlife - the outfit that stocks the Lower Illinois River with Rainbow Trout. So, if you get there between 6:00 and 8:00 am, the gate will be open. After 8:00 am you must stop at the office for a gate pass.
Fishing tournaments and workshops are planned for 2006. On March 3rd, 4th and 5th will be the Spring Trout Tournament with special, tagged Rainbow Trout and a tackle box full of prizes. On March 24th and 25th a Fly-Tying & Casting Workshop will be held. It's free to registered campers and $5 to all others. On June 2nd and 3rd there will be a Stripper Tournament. They're the big lunkers that come upstream to feed on the trout. Finally, on November 3rd, 4th and 5th, there will be another Trout Tournament to kick off the winter fishing season.
The resort now boasts three lodges and 49 cabins. The lodges have two to three bedrooms, most with bunk beds. The cabins range in size from two rooms, one room studio cabins and cabanas. Each cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, bathrooms with hot showers, cable TV and air-conditioning. Most cabins have screened porches and face the river. The cabanas are basically sleeping rooms located in the tent camping area. Still available are RV sites for motor homes, fifth wheels and travel trailers. Of course they have all the required hook-ups. Tent campsites are available for those who like to rough it.
Just in case you or your family doesn't want to fish ALL the time, there is plenty to do - regardless of the weather. If you love the outdoors, there are nature trails at the resort and nearby at the State Park, as well as horseback riding, horseshoes and mini-golf in the resort. The friendly in-ground, heated swimming pool has an air conditioned and heated bath house. When you're ready to dry off, check out the volleyball and basketball courts. Indoor activities include a video game room, pool tables, an open pavilion, indoor meeting room and a snack bar. If you need supplies, the convenience store carries some food and housekeeping items, as well as bait and tackle for your fishing needs. For extended visits, or to rinse out swimming suits and towels, there's a coin operated laundry.
See MarVal's website here for their Valentines Weekend Special!
The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation recently increased the number and size of trout stocked into the lower Illinois River. Through a new agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Wildlife Department obtained an additional 50,000 pounds of rainbow trout from Norfork National Fish Hatchery in Mountain Home, Arkansas. That translates into almost 92,500 more trout for the lower Illinois River this year and will bring the total number of trout stocked annually in the river to almost 177,000.
